About Neil

Born in Tasmania, Australia. Neil started his kitchen career as an apprentice chef. A trip to Europe became a life changing epoch, after two years’ experience and crammed with knowledge from London’s renowned Savoy Hotel, England. This became a stepping stone to many travels through Europe.

Neil first came to Stockholm in the middle of the 80’s and started work at Operakällaren, a thorough initiation into Swedish cooking at all levels followed, Europe beckoned again, this time Vienna, after two years in the Austrian capital Neil returned to Stockholm working then in the gourmet restaurants l’Escargot and Villa Källhagen.

In the early 90’s Neil returned to Australia and took up employment as executive chef at the five-star Gold Coast International Hotel in Australia’s tourist Mecca Surfers Paradise. Back again 1994 in Stockholm and Sergel Plaza Hotel for five years as executive chef, after which Neil was head hunted to Berns with its extensive renovation and the implementation of Sir Terence Conran’s restaurant concept in Stockholm. Berns was then Stockholm’s biggest single restaurant complex.

From 2002 Neil worked as executive chef for 10 years at Hilton Stockholm Slussen. During this period Hilton Stockholm Slussen won among other allocates Arlas Guldko ”best hotel breakfast in Sweden", Neil competed in the national dish of Sweden cooking competition in 2009 and 2010. The hotel won various international environment prizes a common denominator through the kitchen philosophy which included even bee hives on the roof. In June 2012 Neil started at Quality Hotel Friends in Stockholm. Quality Hotel Friends is part of the Nordic Choice concern and is a newly built business hotel with 399 rooms, the hotel is situated in Arena Staden, Solna. The food & beverage operation straddled 3 floors of hot and cold kitchens that link together Friends Arena, opened in October 2012 and Quality Hotel Friends opened in October 2013. The food and beverage operation was colossal with up to 7500 sitting guests at a singular event. In October 2013 Neil left Friends Arena and started Nepo kitchen consulting as a self employed kitchen consultant.
